While Joel Embiid stole many of the headlines on Wednesday night, in the Sixers opener, there were some stories off-the-court that did as well.

Sevyn Streeter was supposed to preform the National Anthem before the game, butr was told just minuted before her performance she had to change her shirt that said "We Matter".  The Sixers offered to have her change the shirt, she declined.

Jamila Worley, a Holy Spirit Graduate and a memeber of the Sixers dance team, ended up replacing her perform the National Anthem at the Sixers opener.

The following is a statement from the Philadelphia 76ers, regarding Sevyn Streeter and the National Anthem:

“We are sorry that this happened.  After receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe that the wrong decision was made, and Sevyn should have been welcomed to sing.  We apologize to her, and in an effort to move the conversation forward, we have reached out to offer her an opportunity to return and perform at a game of her choice. We are waiting to hear back.”
