Sixers To Honor Marc Zumoff on Tuesday Night

The Philadelphia 76ers play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night. In addition to some former players returning to Wells Fargo Center, the Sixers will honor play-by-play announcer Marc Zumoff for 25 years with the team behind the mic.

The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that the team will honor NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Marc Zumoff at The Center during Tuesday night’s 76ers-Timberwolves game on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Zumoff is in the midst of his 25th season as the team’s play-by-play broadcaster and has called 1,882 regular-season and 61 playoff games during his tenure.

Per the official press release, the Sixers will pay tribute to Zumoff with in-arena and social media video tributes throughout the night. Zumoff will also ring the ceremonial Liberty Bell prior to tip-off.

Marc Zumoff’s passion and enthusiasm for the 76ers have been synonymous with our team for 25 years,” Philadelphia 76ers President of Business Operations Chris Heck said. “What we love about Marc the most is that it’s very clear he is living his dream. His energy, his love of the game and his connection to our fans comes through with every call. We’re so fortunate to have him as our television play-by-play announcer and forever a member of the 76ers family. It’s our honor and privilege to recognize him alongside our partners at NBCSP, and we look forward to many more legendary calls from ‘Zoo’ in seasons to come.

Over the years, Zumoff has created some great signature phrases that have been embraced by fans. Here are some of the best:

• Locking all windows and doors
• All cotton for (player name)
• Turning garbage into gold
• Hold on, we're coming in for a landing
• Fresh 24/14
• Down it goes
• As they rise here at Wells Fargo Center
• Fouled en route to the hoop

The Sixers will also have a caricature of Zumoff on the pole pads on the stanchion of each basket.

Zumoff joined NBC Sports Philadealphi back in 1982 when it was PRISM. At that time, he was the studio host for pre-game, halftime and post-game shows. In 1994, he was named the Sixers' play-play-play voice and the rest is history.
