Rivera Blasts Two HRs in Spirit Win

ABSECON — A bagel with cream cheese. That's the secret. Well, sure, Holy Spirit junior catcher Matt Rivera will go with that. Sounds good.

Whatever it was, something had Rivera locked in at the plate on Monday afternoon, as he crushed a pair of two-run home runs to help the host Spartans dispatch Ocean City — a team rebuilding after graduating 8 players from its South Jersey Group 3 championship starting lineup a year ago — 10-0 in five innings.

Lubrano, OC Top Rival Mainland

OCEAN CITY — The Cape-Atlantic League is hereby on notice: Ocean City is coming after ya.

The Red Raiders, not expected to be much of a contender in the league this season after graduating Conner Laverty, took down rival Mainland 58-48 on Wednesday night to move into a tie for first place with the Mustangs in the CAL National Conference — and also picked up their 11th win in 15 games to start the season.

Raiders Beat Rival, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

LINWOOD — The last time Ocean City beat arch-rival Mainland Regional, senior offensive lineman Eric Levai was in kindergarten, learning his A-B-Cs and hoping for chocolate chip cookies and nap time.

The 12-year losing streak came to an emphatic end on Friday night, as the visiting Red Raiders dominated the second half and pulled away for a 30-7 victory. The win put Ocean City at 3-3 and kept their playoff hopes alive.

Andy goes for 250+, 2TDs in Gami’s win

OCEAN CITY — Ifreke Andy is a senior at Absegami, but he doesn't have a ton of football experience. He's a converted soccer player. Ocean City defenders are probably wishing he stuck to soccer.

Andy ran roughshod on Friday night in Ocean City, to the tune of more than 250 yards and two touchdowns, to lead the Braves to a 27-14 victory over the Red Raiders. The win put Absegami at 3-2 overall, and probably kept the Braves' playoff hopes alive.

Early Postseason Exit Last Year Motivates Ocean City Baseball Team

The Ocean City baseball team felt pretty good about its chances to make it to the South Jersey Group 3 championship game last season. The Red Raiders had an outstanding regular season, one that featured a Diamond Classic invitation. And in the opening round of the state playoffs they had dismantled Camden Tech 10-0. If the top-seeded Red Raiders could get past No. 8 Winslow and possibly fifth-seeded Delsea, they would most likely face either Toms River South or rival Mainland in the title game. Ocean City also had its ace pitcher, Sean Mooney, on the hill in the second round of the tournament, and he likely would be available for a championship game appearance. Things were set up nicely.
But Winslow had other ideas.
