Even this early in the season, the response to a loss like the Flyers 8-2 drubbing to the San Jose Sharks can determine where this season is heading before it even picks up steam.

There are certainly new storylines, but there are a lot of familiar ones as well. No matter how you look at it, there’s a lot to keep an eye on during this upcoming Flyers season. Here are 10 storylines you should be watching.

With the rest of the city experiencing success on some level, the Flyers have nowhere to hide now after the first-round exits. With a lot of their future core already in place, they need to start to show signs of further success this season.

There was more clarity in the Flyers lines at practice as the preseason winds down. Also, the Flyers released a statement regarding Jori Lehtera and updated injuries.

The Flyers have wanted to be patient with Hart and have him take every step necessary in development. Injuries may have opened the door for a chance to make the roster this season. The injuries are not Hart's focus though, rather what he can control in his case to be an NHL goaltender.

The goalies are the leading topic at camp now with Alex Lyon and now Neuvirth dealing with injuries. Brian Elliott is also working his way back from an injury. The Flyers got off to another good start in Friday's game, but the finish was hardly similar to the previous three games. With the first four days of training camp and two preseason games in the books, it’s provided some clarity on who the Flyers third-line center options appear to be, based on both the on-ice sessions at camp and GM Ron Hextall’s comments.

It was difficult to find many positives out of this game, a 3-0 loss for the Flyers to the Islanders, and an injury to Travis Sanheim only added to it.
