Congrats to Mainland's Deirdre Lenzsch for taking home last week's 97.3 ESPN High School Athlete of the Week honors.

As we head into the Spring sports season, we have a new batch of local student-athletes this week who have proven themselves worthy.

You can vote for your pick, and hear the winner announced on the South Jersey Sports Report with Tyler Donohue Saturday morning beginning at 9:00.

Anna Gordon, Lacrosse, Mainland - The senior standout scored her 100th career goal in a 21-2 victory over visiting Winslow Township on Monday. Gordon tallied six total goals and five assists in the win. She will play for La Salle University next season.

Gary Melton, Track & Field, Cedar Creek - Melton, who starred at running back for the Pirates during the fall season, continues a strong senior sports campaign. He earned wins in three events during Wednesday's upset victory over Cape-Atlantic League favorite Pleasantville. Melton captured the top spot in the long jump, triple jump and 100-meter sprint, which he finished in 10.7 seconds.

Corrine Etter, Lacrosse, Millville - Etter entered the season regarded as one of the most feared playmakers in South Jersey and continues to establish quite an athletic legacy at Millville. She scored six goals in a 12-8 victory over Egg Harbor Township Tuesday, including four second-half scores that helped put the game out of reach.

Taylor Kniethardt, Baseball, ACIT - He connected on a game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh against Cape May Tech on Tuesday. His timely hit gave the Red Hawks an 8-7 victory, the first in win in program history.

Maddie Peterson, Surfing, Wildwood Crest - The 15-year-old PacSun U.S. Surf Team member claimed her third consecutive Open Girls surfing title at the East Coast Championships last weekend in Florida. Peterson has dominated competition across the country recently, as her quest for global domination continues.
