Congratulations to St. Augustine Prep grad and recent Los Angels Angels draftee, Joe Gatto who took home last week's 97.3 ESPN High School Athlete of the Week award.

This week, we have a fresh batch of local student-athletes who have proven themselves worthy on their respective fields.

Mike Gesicki, Volleyball, Southern Regional - He led the Rams to a second consecutive state title by helping the squad defeat St. Peter's Prep in three sets. The senior had 15 kills and five blocks, capping off an illustrious three-sport career.

 

Matt Tepedino, Baseball, Mainland Regional - He overpowered opposing batters throughout a 2-0 victory over Hamilton West. Tepedino racked up 13 strikeouts and surrendered just five hits, delivering Mainland to its first state title game appearance.

 

Taylor Sirolli, Softball, St. Joe - The sophomore pitcher stepped up in just her fourth start of the season. She tossed a three-hitter and struck out five batters in a 2-1 win over Mater Dei in the South Jersey championship game.

 

Ishmael Muhammad, Track & Field, Oakcrest - The senior set a Group III state championship record by completing the 800-meter final in 1:50.65. It represented the fastest time in New Jersey this year and sixth-fastest in the country.

 

Alec Craig, Baseball, St. Joe - He went the distance, striking out 12 batters in the process, to push the Wildcats to a South Jersey championship for the first time since 1977. He surrendered six hits in a 3-2 win over defending state champion Rutgers Prep.
