Here are this week’s candidates for CAL athlete of the week.

Here are this week’s candidates:

Steve Pontrello, St. Augustine lacrosse – The senior midfielder racked up four goals and two assists in the Hermits 12-6 victory over Ridgewood on Thursday. Pontrello, who is committed to play collegiate lacrosse at North Carolina, leads St. Augustine in points this season.

Chris Filling, Absegami golf – Led the Braves to Cape-Atlantic League victories over Oakcrest and Cedar Creek on Thursday at Seaview Resort in Galloway Township. Filling shot a 1-under 35 (including three birdies) to help propel Absegami.

Aaron Cox, Millville baseball – The senior pitcher dominated at the plate and on the mound in Millville’s impressive 2-0 victory over St. Augustine on Tuesday. Cox clobbered a home run and struck out nine batters to spearhead the Thunderbolts.

Becca Maguire, Absegami softball – She launched a game-winning two-run homer against Hammonton on Tuesday. Maguire’s bomb in the bottom of the seventh inning finished off the Braves’ 5-3 Cape-Atlantic League victory.
