We have a new batch of local student-athletes this week who have proven themselves worthy in their respective fields.

Matt DiCerbo, Baseball, Atlantic City - He clobbered a game-changing home run to help pave the way toward a stunning Vikings playoff victory. DiCerbo drilled a three-run shot over the right-field fence in the third inning of 15th-seeded Atlantic City's 5-3 win over No. 2 Vineland in South Jersey Group IV action.

 

Lindsay Lare, Lacrosse, Lower Cape May - The senior standout scored the 200th goal of her career during a 15-8 victory over Oakcrest. She is the fourth Cape May County female athlete to accomplish that feat and will plat University of New Haven next season.

 

Doug Schwartz, Baseball, Middle Township - The senior slugger connected on a game-winning hit in the eighth inning of a first-round playoff victory. Schwartz drove in the go-ahead run with a single to push the Panthers past rival Lower Cape May 2-1 in the South Jersey Group II playoffs.

 

Cheyenne Meyer, Softball, Cedar Creek - The sophomore pitching ace was splendid throughout the Pirates' 11-1 victory over Manchester Township in the opening round of South Jersey Group II playoff action. Meyer struck out 12 batters, scattering three hits along the way.

 

Nick Verzicco, Lacrosse, Oakcrest - The Falcons goalie came up huge in a 10-8 playoff win over Red Bank. Verzicco stopped 23 shots in the first round of the South Jersey Group II tournament, helping Oakcrest secure its first playoff victory in program history.
