What Can Eagles Fans Expect From Running Backs In 2016?

Heading into the Eagles 3rd Preseason Game one of the many questions revolving around the team is their running back depth chart.  While Doug Pederson was Offensive Coordinator in Kansas City, the Chiefs had a stable of Running Backs backing up Pro Bowler Jamaal Charles who has not played a full season for 5 of his 8 seasons in the NFL.  Meanwhile the Eagles projected starting Running Back Ryan Mathews has not played a full season in 5 of his 6 seasons in the NFL.

Josh Paunil of Birds 24/7 at Phillymag.com joined Mike Gill on Friday and discussed how he expects the Eagles to handle their Running Backs in 2016:

"There's definitely not going to be a main work horse where none of the other guys really touch the ball, it's definitely going to be a Running Back by Committee; even though Ryan Mathews will obviously get a disproportionate amount of carries as he should, but I think they're also going to be cautious of let's not run him 25-30 times a game because obviously we know how injury prone he is so maybe 15 carries be good for him...But it definitely will be let's lean on Ryan Mathews but we also need to get other Running Backs involved whether it's Darren Sproles or Wendell Smallwood in the Passing Game even or as Third Down backs.  So I definately think that there's going to be some mixing of Running Backs even if Ryan Mathews is playing well for you."
