VOORHEES — One way or another, it seems Ron Hextall will be the next general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.

This is hardly a surprise. It looked like the writing was on the wall when the Flyers brought back the heralded goalie as an assistant general manager last July after he had held the same title with the Los Angeles Kings since 2006.

The only question is when.

After team chairman Ed Snider spoke on the team's break-up day, it appeared almost imminent.

"That's why he was brought in," Snider said. "He didn't come in to stay assistant GM forever, but that doesn't mean tomorrow. But I've got to sit down with Paul (Holmgren)."

Oh yeah, the current general manager. Holmgren has held the title for eight years. After Peter Luukko left this season, the Flyers have been without a team president. Perhaps Holmgren moves on to bigger and better things.

"We're going to all sit down and it's going to be up to Paul," Snider said.
