According to a tweet from CBS baseball writer Danny Knobler, the Phillies were very close to pull the plug on the Delmon Young experience and calling up Darin Ruf. However, seven hits the last three games have bought Young a little time.

Many Phillies fans wanted Ruf to win the left field job in spring training, but the Phillies just didn't think he was ready and capable of playing the outfield just yet.  Then he went down to Lehigh Valley and struggled at the plate.  However, with Ryan Howard struggling with knee issues and Young really not having a future with the team, now might be the time to see what Ruf can do with the big club.

The team is dying for a right-handed bat in the line-up and Ruf, while not tearing it up at AAA could add a spark on the major league line-up.  Last season in 12 big league games, Ruf provided three home runs, Young has hit seven homers in 47 games this season.

Ruf, 26 has just seven home runs in 72 games at Lehigh, but the Phillies need to find out if  what they have sooner then later.
