Former Phillies manager Jim Fregosi suffered a stroke while on a Major League Baseball alumni cruise and has been hospitalized in the Cayman Islands, sources close to Fregosi said Wednesday.

Fregosi, most remembered by Phillies fans as the leader of the 1993 team that went to the World Series.  Led by Fregosi, the 1993 Phillies produced a 97-65 record and won the National League pennant by defeating the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS.

He managed from 1991 through the 1996 season with a record of 431-463 in six seasons with the Phillies.

Fregosi, 71, currently serves as a special assistant to Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren. He managed 15 years in the majors with the California Angels, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.

Fregosi's family currently is trying to make arrangements to fly him to Miami.
