Sports Talk with Brodes: Phillies Take Down the Nationals 8-3
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals by a score of 8-3.
Jake Arrieta pitched five innings only throwing 54 pitches, but due to a rain delay his night was over. The bullpen held it's own.
JT Realmuto hit a three-run home run, Jean Segura recorded three hits and two RBIs, and Roman Quinn was so good on the bases. The Phils found a way to score in a variety of different ways.
The defense needs to be better, recording three errors on the night.

Sports Talk with Brodes: Sixers Swept by the Celtics
The Philadelphia Sixers were swept by the Boston Celtics. Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker were just too much. Joel Embiid had no help, but the overall state of this 76ers' team didn't stand a chance. Will Brett Brown get fired? What major changes will come next? Is anyone willing to take on Al Horford or Tobias Harris' contract? So many questions.....
Sports Talk with Brodes: Sixers Fail to Make Shots in Game 3
The Philadelphia Sixers lose game three to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics closed the game out on a 10-0 run. Joel Embiid was the only reason why the 76ers had a chance considering the squad shot under 30% from the field. Late though, he had a crucial turnover late and was rejected by Jayson Tatum in the final moments. The team shot 23% from three. Tobias Harris has yet to make a three-pointer this series and Al Horford was terrible! This team stinks.
Sports Talk with Brodes: Flyers Advance to the Second Round!
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 3-2 in Game 6. Matt Niskanen was suspended so Shayne Gostisbehere joined the lineup and he played pretty well! Carter Hart was very strong as the Habs threw a ton of shots on net. The Flyers came out hot and scored two goals five minutes into the game. Once they had the lead, they played a VERY defensive style of hockey and did not pursue a ton of offense. That needs to change moving forward.
Sports Talk with Brodes: Phillies Blow 7-0 Lead, Lose Both Games in Double Header
The Philadelphia Phillies lost both games in their double header with the Toronto Blue Jays.
In game one, Spencer Howard was cruising 97 mph fastballs past hitters until Joe Girardi took him out after 3 2/3 innings. The bullpen was abysmal from there as Tommy Hunter and Deolis Guerra blew the lead. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a walk off for the Blue Jays.
In game two, the Phillies started out with a 7-0 lead in the first inning, but found a way to lose. Vince Velasquez allowed a two-run home run instantly and once he was pulled the bullpen fell apart. (You've probably heard that before) Connor Brogdon struggled and Hector Neris wasn't able to execute. He was not helped by the defense at all as Scott Kingery and Didi Gregorius made sloppy plays to keep the sixth inning alive.
Sports Talk with Brodes: Flyers Fail to Close Out the Series in Game 5
The Philadelphia Flyers lose game five to the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 5-3. Carter Hart let in some soft goals, but I approve Alain Vigneault's decision to play him in the back-to-back. Jakub Voracek played a great game and scored two power-play goals. He finished with three points. Claude Giroux assisted on both of his opportunities. I think the Flyers close out the series in game six.
Sports Talk with Brodes: Sixers Embarrassed in Game 2
The Philadelphia Sixers were blown out by 27 points against the Boston Celtics in Game 2. Brett Brown's defensive philosophy is getting mocked by Kemba Walker and Joel Embiid. Things need to change. Jayson Tatum can't continue to get where he wants to on the floor. Matisse Thybulle was no match for him as Thybulle finished -30 on the night. Al Horford recorded four points and two rebounds. Tobias Harris shot 4-15 from the floor. The 76ers were out-rebounded. Yup. You ready that correctly. It looked like they waived the white flag.
Sports Talk with Brodes: Phillies Win 13-6, Huge Two-Out Rally!
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 13-6. Zach Eflin struggled with his pitch count. He struck out eight hitters though raising an interesting question: Is Eflin focusing too much on strikeouts?
The sixth inning two-out rally was incredible and it all started with, you guessed it, Phil Gosselin. Bryce Harper hit a three-run home-run in that inning to blow the game open. The Phillies scored a total of seven runs in the frame. That's ironic considering the Fernando Tatis Jr "incident" that just occurred.
Rhys Hoskins hit a solo shot which is HUGE for his confidence. Jay Bruce hit a three-run bomb of his own late in the game and finished with four RBIs.
This is the fourth straight victory and the Phils are now 9-9 on the season.
