1/87-2/87 Traveled to King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to participate in a trachoma field project. Work done with Dr. Khalid Tabbara, Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology. Sponsored by the government of Saudi Arabia.

12/86-1/87 Traveled to University of the Phillipines, Manila to design and implement a hospital based study which evaluated the feasibility of impression cytology in the diagnosis of early xerophthalmia. Work done under the guidance of Dr. Vitaliano Bernardino, Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia and Dr. Conrado Lorenzo, Chancellor of the University of the Phillipines, Manila.

9/85-6/86 Worked on a randomized, placebo-controlled trial designed to determine whether 325mg aspirin taken on alternative days reduces the risk of developing cataract. Work done with Dr. Charles Hennekens, Associate Professor of Medicine Harvard Medical School.

9/81-1/82 Senior honors thesis involving the elucidation of the DNA binding properties of the ral polypeptides of Haemophilus influenza mutants. Work done with Dr. Sol Goodgal, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
