PHILADELPHIA (973espn.com) — With a punter set to turn 36 in July, the Eagles wisely decided to put him on a pitch count this spring and summer.

Philadelphia signed former Jets punter Ryan Quigley Monday to lighten the load and at lest provide some cursory training-camp competition for Donnie Jones, the venerable, two-time, second-team All-Pro, who was still excelling last season, averaging 47.0 yards per punt with a solid 41.6 net average.

Quigley, a Boston College product, on the other hand was at 43.8 ypp with the Jets with a 36.5 net and has generally been knocked as a guy who delivers returnable punts. He is, however, a significant upgrade from Jones' competition last year, former UCLA kicker/punter Kip Smith.
