The Phillies purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Ethan Martin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.  He will make a spot start for the Phillies on Friday night against the Braves.

Cliff Lee’s turn in the rotation is Friday, but he missed his last start because of neck stiffness.

It will be the 24-year-old right-hander's major league debut.

The hard-throwing right-hander was the 15th overall pick in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft, and was acquired by the Phillies in the Shane Victorino deal last season.  Martin's star has faded a bit since he was a 2008 first-round pick, posting an underwhelming 4.12 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 107/67 K/BB ratio in 115 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Martin is 11-5 in 21 starts this season and is 4-2 with a 2.08 ERA in his last seven starts.
