DWI Checkpoint Coming to Ventnor This Weekend
You can't say you weren't warned.
Ventnor Police have announced they will be holding a DWI checkpoint this weekend to prevent people from drinking and driving.
Ventnor Police Announce DWI Checkpoint
Saying on Facebook that their goal is to stop people from drinking and then getting behind the wheel, Ventnor City Police posted that they will be conducting a DWI checkpoint this Saturday night, July 26, from 10 pm to 3 am.
The checkpoint will be held on Atlantic Avenue. Police don't always announce the location of the DWI checkpoint.
In the Facebook post, Ventnor Police said they are trying to discourage people from drinking and driving.
The primary objective of this checkpoint is to deter and prevent the practice of drinking and driving with the hopes to outright eliminate it altogether.
In compliance with New Jersey State law, an advance notice of the DWI checkpoint must be given to the public. This advance notice hopefully discourages members of the public from drinking and driving.
A Neighboring Community Has Seen a Spike in DUIs
On Monday, just about the same time that Ventnor Police announced the DWI checkpoint, the police chief of Egg Harbor Township posted on Facebook that the number of people driving in EHT while impaired this summer is higher than the same period in 2025.
To date in 2025, we have arrested 95 (people) for impaired driving as compared to 74 for the same time period in 2024. We have more than doubled arrests in July 2025 as compared to July 2024, with 22 arrests versus 10.
Money and Support Available for the Checkpoint
Ventnor City Police say funding for the sobriety checkpoint is being made available through Drunk Driving Enforcement Funds, money collected by the Municipal Court in fines and costs levied against people found guilty of driving while intoxicated.
