Corrections officer, 2 others smuggled contraband into Atlantic County, NJ, prison: Prosecutor

Authorities say a corrections officer who worked at the Atlantic County Justice Facility along with two other people have been charged in connection to smuggling contraband into the prison.

Ofc. Christopher Piccioni of Swedesboro, NJ, Charged

On Monday, 33-year-old Christopher Piccioni of Swedesboro was charged with second-degree official misconduct, second-degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct, fourth-degree tampering with evidence, and a petty disorderly persons offense of providing an inmate other contraband.

Two other individuals, 40-year-old Oydreia Smith of Mays Landing and 39-year-old Dion Robinson of Egg Harbor Township, were also charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit official misconduct.

Four-month-long Investigation

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says they learned about items being smuggled into the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing back in January.

During a four-month investigation, Piccioni was identified as a suspect.

Prosecutors say,

Piccioni was found to have conspired with Smith as well as Robinson, an inmate in the facility, to smuggle contraband into the facility on multiple occasions in return for payment. Piccioni was also found to have tampered with evidence during the investigation.

This incident is currently being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.
