Major Election Day Change Will Affect Atlantic City, New Jersey
The Atlantic County Board of Elections voted to change a rule that had been in effect for many decades.
Atlantic County Board Of Elections Voted Unanimously
For most of Atlantic County New Jersey’s 23 municipalities, the rule change will be irrelevant.
The Atlantic County Board of Elections is comprised of two Republicans and two Democrats.
No one can cry politics, as the Board voted 4-0 to make the rule change, as outlined directly below.
The Rule Change
Previously, the Atlantic County, New Jersey rule was that no campaigning whatsoever was permitted within 100 feet of an election polling place.
Effective immediately, this distance has been doubled to 200 feet.
Certain Atlantic City Political Operatives Will Not Like This Rule Change One Bit
Most municipalities will have no issue with the rule change.
However, in Atlantic City, they always push the envelope and aggressive campaigning regularly takes place within 100 feet of the polls.
For countless years, there have been complaints about campaigning efforts that are well inside of 100 feet from an election polling place.
Now, these political operatives must remain 200 feet away from the polls.
For those in Atlantic City who previously pushed the previous distance rule as much as they could get away with … this will keep them farther away from the election polling place.
This Change Is Great For Voters
If you’ve ever gone to your polling place and witnessed people campaigning very close to your polling place entry door … you know exactly what this feels like.
It can be intimidating and makes people feel uncomfortable.
