Substitute teacher with fraudulent ID arrested at school in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ: Police

A substitute teacher who was supposed to be at a school in Egg Harbor Township — but who allegedly had a fraudulent teacher identification — has been arrested and police are still trying to put the pieces of this puzzle together.

The situation unfolded Monday, September 9th, when, according to the EHT Police Department, they received a call from Security Director Bryan Paige with the Egg Harbor Township School District who said a female substitute teacher was at the Alder Avenue Middle School with what appeared to be a fraudulent teacher ID.

Several EHT police officers responded to the school to figure out exactly what was going on and to determine whether or not the teacher, identified as 35-year-old Katherine MacPherson of Egg Harbor Township, was a threat to the facility.

Police say after confirming that the ID was fraudulent, MacPherson was taken into custody and charged accordingly.

[An] investigation determined that MacPherson was not a threat and was in fact supposed to be working at the Egg Harbor Township middle school yesterday, but the reason she chose to arrive bearing a fraudulent identification is still unknown.

According to authorities, MacPherson has not told them why she had a fake ID nor did she say who created it.

Police later stated,

While [the] Egg Harbor Township school district contracts out for substitute teachers, the district has additional safety measures in place to be sure that everyone coming in and out of the schools are accounted for. We are thankful for the relationship we have with the district and that they go above and beyond to ensure the safety of staff and students.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
