Cops in one South Jersey municipality say an Atlantic City man called them for a ride over the weekend — but they didn't take him where he wanted to go.

Instead, he went to jail.

That's because those same cops say he was wanted by Camden County Probation.

We're not ones to give helpful tips to criminals, but one would assume that if you are wanted by law enforcement, the last thing you should do is call cops for a ride...

Tragic Fire and Busy Weekend in Washington Township

In addition to the tragic house fire that claimed the lives of two people early Sunday morning, officers with the Washington Township Police Department had another very busy weekend.

Usually every Monday, that department posts a weekend round-up on Facebook to give the public an idea of what their officers had to deal with.

Weekend Snapshot: By the Numbers

This past weekend, they received 312 calls for service, investigated 23 accidents, stopped 81 vehicles, and arrested 11 people.

Notable Incidents from the Weekend

  • Psychiatric Emergency, Washington Way Apartments — A woman was found screaming in the woods with deep, self-inflicted injuries. She was transported to Jefferson Hospital.
  • Well-being Check, Hurffville-Grenloch Road — Officers found a disoriented elderly woman walking around. She was reunited with her grandson.
  • Motor vehicle complaint, Pitman-Downer Road — An elderly man with dementia got disoriented while driving. His vehicle was secured and his family members were contacted.
  • Dwelling Fire, Samantha Court — A garage fire occurred after a lawnmower was brought inside. Police say the fire spread rapidly.

  • Theft, BC Auto Tire — A subject in a black BMW X5 stole five tires and fled. The vehicle had a broken rear window. Investigation ongoing.
  • Theft, Walmart — A man reported his iPad was stolen after leaving it on his vehicle and entering the store.

  • Missing person, Arons Circle — A juvenile reported missing out of Haddon Heights was located by officers.
  • Habitual runaways — 2 brothers were reported missing and later located by officers at another home.

  • Warrant Arrest/Motor Vehicle Stop: A woman was arrested for an active warrant out of Bridgeton.
  • Warrant Arrest/Motor Vehicle Stop: A 55-year-old man from Williamstown was arrested on an active warrant.
  • Warrant Arrest/Motor Vehicle Stop: A man from Deptford was arrested on multiple active warrants.
  • NCIC Wanted Person Arrest/Motor Vehicle Stop: A man from Freehold was arrested for an NCIC hit out of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department and taken to Salem County Jail.
