The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday the team has optioned pitcher Jose Alvarado to Triple-A Lehigh and recalled left-handed pitcher Bailey Falter, who will start tonight's game against the Mets.

Alvarado allowed one earned run and two hits in 0.2 innings pitched in Wednesday’s loss to the Atlanta Braves.

He is in his second season in Philadelphia and has posted a 7.62 ERA and 2.00 WHIP this season.

Command and walks have been a major issue for Alvarado since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays before last season.  He has a dynamic fastball, but 17 strikeouts and 10 walks in 13 innings.  The hard-throwing 27-year-old lefty had a 4.20 ERA and 68 strikeouts and 47 walks in 55 2/3 innings of relief in 2021. .

Falter has been up and down with the Phillies the past two seasons, appearing in 27 games, including five games this season.

Falter limited the Mariners to just one run over 4 2/3 innings in his last Phillies appearance back on May 11.

The Phillies start a new series on the road in New York against the Mets.
