The 2018-19 season was another year in what has been a roller-coaster career for Shayne Gostisbehere, who followed up a career-high 65 points with a career-low 37 points. So the question arises again: which version of Gostisbehere will the Flyers get this season?
One day after they acquired defenseman Matt Niskanen from the Capitals for Radko Gudas, they officially placed defenseman Andrew MacDonald on waivers for purposes of a buyout. MacDonald is expected to clear waivers and have the contract bought out, making him a free agent.
The weekend provided fodder for many different topics as the trade deadline approaches, from the Flyers acquisition of Cam Talbot, to Wayne Simmonds' deadline fate, to signs of a possible moving on from Shayne Gostisbehere.
While this was far from perfect for the Flyers and their play still showed some of the familiar flaws that had them on a lengthy losing streak to begin with, this was also a game where the Flyers got some bounces, played to their strengths in the game and got some help from the guy in goal.
The Flyers finally made a move on Monday after another slow start to the season and two embarrassing losses in the same week. It was certainly shocking when it was GM Ron Hextall on the way out. A move was necessary, but was this the right one for the Flyers?
