The Flyers chose to turn to an area they feel is the foundation of success in the NHL: defense. They chose the upside of a budding defensive prospect in Oliver Bonk, in hopes that it will come to fruition with development.

Danny Briere's first trade as Flyers GM was a blockbuster, moving Ivan Provorov in a three-team trade and acquiring three players and three draft picks. It backed up Briere's "open for business" comments ahead of a busy offseason.
