The areas barrier islands are beginning to evacuate, due to the impending Hurricane Sandy.  Mike Gill and Todd Ranck took a trip down to the beach to give you a up-close look at what the storm looks like in it's early stages. Here is an update:

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie declared a state of emergency today as Hurricane Sandy approaches New Jersey. Gov. Christie appeared in North Wildwood this afternoon to talk more about the storm.

The latest briefing from weather officials mentioned the chance of record-breaking floods early next week when Hurricane Sandy slams the Garden State. To mitigate potential damage, Governor Chris Christie announced today that water levels will be manually drawn down from a number of rivers and lakes in advance of the storm.

New Jersey officials are urging residents to prepare for next week's Frankenstorm by getting an emergency preparedness kit.
