Last week longtime Wildwood Catholic head boys basketball coach Dave DeWeese announced he was retiring after 18 seasons on the Crusaders sidelines. On Friday the school announced that one of the best players in history will replace him.

Back in April the Diocese of Camden announced that five local schools including Wildwood Catholic and St. Joe's of Hammonton high schools would be closing their doors.

News came down Friday that Wildwood Catholic and St. joe' high schools would be closing, both schools didn't take the news sitting down, they immediately tries to stand up and take action.

Reacting to a decision by Rutgers University, the NJSIAA announced Wednesday its Boys Basketball Group Finals on Sunday will move to Phillipsburg High School, that deal has fell through, leaving them looking for a new home.

The title was Wildwood Catholic’s third straight and fourth overall — most of any team.

The Mustangs (18-5), the 2018 tournament champion, advance to Saturday’s noon final at Stockton University against Atlantic City, a 40-33 winner over No. 2 seed Ocean City in the other semifinal.

During Wednesday nights CAL semi-final game between St. Joe's and Wildwood Catholic, I witnessed a play that I have never seen happen in all my years calling basketball games.

The CAL boys' playoffs are down to the Final Four, with the No. 1 seeded Wildwood Catholic Crusaders (18-7) trying to advance to the championship game by knocking off the fifth seeded St. Joe's Wildcats (20-4) at Absegami high school.

The Crusaders used a 12-3 run to end the third quarter on Wednesday night, breaking open a 41-40 game to earn the road win.

The top two teams in the Cape-Atlantic League will meet in the CAL boys's final as the No. 2 seeded, Wildwood Catholic Crusaders (23-2) face top-seeded Atlantic City (22-3) at Stockton University today at 2pm.
