The Atlantic City Board of Education has chosen a former rival as their new head football coach. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Leo Hamlett was approved Tuesday night as the the Vikings new football coach, replacing Thomas Kelly, who stepped down after eight seasons.

Hamlett, who lives in Northfield, was a star quarterback for Holy Spirit football team that won the South Jersey Non-Public A title and went undefeated at 11-0 in 1990. He continued on to the University of Delaware, where he was the threw for over 2000 years in his college career.

Hamlett, 44, a third grade teacher in Pleasantville, was the offensive coordinator at Holy Spirit in 2010 and 2011.

Now he will lead the Atlantic City Vikings into a tough 2018 schedule that includes their traditional Thanksgiving Day game against rival Holy Spirit, Hamlett's alma mater. It should make for an interesting South Jersey high school football season.
