Cliff Lee on waivers

Mike and Todd opened the show up with Phillies pitcher being placed on waivers. Now dont panic, this is a standard practice with teams placing high profile players with huge contracts on waivers. If Lee does get claimed, Phillies will have 3 options: pull him back, let him and his $95M salary walk, or negotiate a trade with the claiming trade. If he passes through waivers, the Phillies can pull him back OR trade him to any team in MLB. Mike Gill still thinks Cliff Lee will be traded at some point, no matter what Ruben Amaro, Jr says.

Yambo!

Todd Zolecki on Phillies

Todd Zolecki called in and confirmed to us that Cliff Lee being placed on waivers is no big deal and he also expects players like Joe Blanton, Jimmy Rollins, Placido Polanco and even Ryan Howard to all be placed on waivers at some point. That doesn't mean they'll be traded, it just gives the Phillies flexibility to do as they wish. Zolecki has been on the beat for years and has never covered a losing team.

Dan Graziano, ESPN.com NFC East blogger called in and talked about his tour of Eagles Training Camp from Lehigh this week. Graziano talked with DeSean Jackson for awhile and Jackson told him that he wants to have the ball in his hands more this season and he expects to be used more so than just a decoy. On DeMeco Ryans: "he commands instant respect and I dont understand why people are so hesitant on him." Graziano also said there is some talent on the defensive line and "7, 8 deep on rotation will make them even more fearsome." Follow Dan Graziano on Twitter.

Phillies report with Petzar

Some news came down at the ballpark today in that Joe Blanton was traded to the Dodgers and Cliff Lee was claimed by an unknown team. Ryan Petzar called in and talked about the Blanton trade to the Dodgers for a P2BNL or cash. Cliff Lee was claimed off waivers by an unknown team, which doesn't mean much...yet. The Eagles traded 2 LBS for Thomas, a move that Ryan Messick and Mike Gill discussed. Also with this move, what current defensive backs on the roster are in danger of getting released? Either way, the Eagles have a lot of depth on their defense and can afford a move like this.
