Former Eagles tight end Zach Ertz ‘in conversation’ with Commanders

Could we see former Eagles tight end Zach Ertz back in the NFC East?

It could happen according to Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football on the NFL Network, who says Ertz has been in conversations with the Washington Commanders.

This comes on the heels of the Commanders releasing tight end Logan Thomas, who caught 55 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns over 16 games in 2023.

The 33-year-old ended last season on the Detroit Lions practice squad after being released by the Arizona Cardinals.  In 2023 with Arizona, Ertz was dealing with a quadriceps injury and totaled just seven games, with 27 receptions for 187 yards and one touchdown.

Ertz was traded by the Eagles during the 2021 season in exchange for cornerback Tay Gowan and a fifth-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Eagles used the fifth-round pick to make a trade to with Houston to move up two spots and ended up drafting Jordan Davis.

Ertz won a Super Bowl, made three Pro Bowls with the Eagles and had the most receptions in a single-season (116) by a tight end in 2018. He also has the most receptions in a single game for the Eagles with 15 set back in 2014.

He was a second-round pick out of Stanford back in 2013 and overall amassed 709 catches for 6,267 yards and 46 touchdowns with the Eagles during his nine season in Philadelphia.
