A new defensive mind has hit the open market.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Vic Fangio and the Miami Dolphins have parted ways and he will be the top target for the Philadelphia Eagles open defensive coordinator job.

"We're looking for the guy who is the best person for the job, and that can be – there are many different systems that work," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said at the press conference on Wednesday. There are many different systems that work well. We're looking for the guy who's going to be best for the job that can utilize the skills that our players have so they can play at their highest level.

A lot of good candidates there, as well, and that's what we're going through right now as we speak."

Per Schefter Miami allowed Fangio to leave so he could be closer to his family in Pennsylvania.

He was with the Eagles during their run to the Super Bowl in 2022 as a defensive consultant and it was reported that he could replace Jonathan Gannon.  Gannon said he intended to stay with the team, but later changed course, landing the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job.

In the meantime, Fangio landed a job with the Dolphins, but now is a free agent.

Per veteran NFL reporter Josina Anderson, on the team is internally expecting Vic Fangio to be their next defensive coordinator.

"We've got a lot of good targets that we're working through, and there are a lot of guys that have done really well in their interview process, and I look forward to continuing on that process," Sirianni added. "We'll see what happens."

We sure will.
