3 Local Breweries Win Medals at Great American Beer Festival
There are many styles when it comes to craft beers, and there are plenty of great craft beer breweries in South Jersey to pick from.
Four New Jersey Brews, and three from the southern part of the state, have become so popular, that they've been recognized among the best in the country.
At this weekend's Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, Gusto Brewing and Cape May Brewing each were awarded a bronze medal, while Kane Brewing and Bolero Snort Brewery each received silver medals.
Let's start with Gusto from North Cape May, who won a bronze medal for their beer, Good Talk, which was entered in the English Mild or Bitter category. Good Talk has 3.9 ABV and is rated 3.95 out of 5 stars by the App Untapped.
Ordinary Bitter brewed with mild, biscuit, and crystal malts. Hopped in the kettle with Willamette and East Kent Goldings. This pub ale is simply pleasing with its subtle aroma which wafts like tea that’s been lightly laced with a teaspoon of orange marmalade. A quiet rush of bran cereal prudently finishes off this crisp, crushable little beer.
Cape May Brewing won the Bronze for the category Vienna-Style Lager, with their Cape May Oktoberfest, which has a 5.8% ABV and is rated 3.62 by the App Untapped.
Rich and complex, this amber-colored lager is smooth and clean due to a cool fifty-degree fermentation, mellowing as it lagers. Well-balanced with a hint of hops presence, Oktoberfest is focused on the grain bill of Vienna, Munich, Caramunich, Pilsen, and Melanoidin malts.
Kane Brewing won the silver in the Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale category with their beer called Sneakbox, which has a 5.4 ABV and is rated 3.98 by the users of Untapped.
This American Pale Ale uses exclusively Citra hops for intense flavor and aromatic of citrus and tropical fruit. A clean, uncomplicated malt bill and a dry finish make for great drinkability.
The final New Jersey beer comes from North Jersey, in Carlstadt which is a borough in Bergen County, called Jersey Vice from Bolero Snort Brewery. The beer won the silver medal in the Specialty Berliner-Style Weisse category. It is 4.2% ABV and is rated 4.00 stars by users of Untapped.
