A Spirited Victory [PODCAST]
The spring sports season for high school athletes is heating up, and one local baseball team is looking to build off a recent statement victory over one of the best programs in South Jersey. Holy Spirit's Ricky Hopkins was instrumental in the Spartans victory over powerhouse St. Augustine, recording two doubles and three RBI. We spoke with the senior about the team's confidence coming off the big win, and why they're putting their victory over the Hermits in the rear-view mirror.
She's the newest member of New Jersey's 100-goal club for girls lacrosse, and now she's also 97.3's High School Athlete of the Week. We spoke with Mainland Regional's Anna Gordon about her milestone accomplishment, and an upcoming college career at La Salle University.
Cape May County Gazette sports editor Brian Cunniff offers a look at high school sports a little further south, including the finish on a four-hour, 39-run baseball marathon in Wildwood. He also explains how a local surfer is making waves on the national level, and where a South Jersey triathlete finished in his most recent international event.
If we're talking international, there's no better place for one Middle Township native than Belgium. Tom Gibbons is currently overseas to compete in some of the most talent-laden cycling races in the world. We asked him about he got his start in amateur racing, and if he plans to turn his favorite hobby into a professional career.
While Gibbons is at home on his bike, another Cape May County native couldn't imagine a more special place than the water. Despite a severe spinal cord injury more than 10 years ago, Chad DeSatnick is overcoming the odds and getting back on his surfboard. He explains his journey through intensive rehab, and how an upcoming charity surfing event is making all the difference in his life.
