August means different things for many people - For the Eagles, it's the beginning of Training Camp and preparing for a new football season. - For the Phillies, it means the dog days of summer, and a playoff push. - For the South Jersey Lifeguards up and down the coast, it’s racing season!

The Phillies are currently holding the second wild card spot in the National League playoff race.  They are 8.5 games behind the red-hot Atlanta Braves in the NL East for first place.  The MLB trading deadline was last Monday, and Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made three major moves to help the ball club down the stretch.  Dombrowski acquired three-time batting champ Luis Arraez, and right handed relief pitcher Caleb Kilian from the Giants, along with left handed relief pitcher Brooks Raley from the Mets. Dombrowski did his job, now it’s up to the players to perform.

The Eagles are into week two of training camp.  The Birds play their first pre-season game in Baltimore against the Ravens on Saturday August 15th at 7pm.  Hear all the action on 97.3 FM ESPN Radio.  By all accounts, the Birds look good on offense as Jalen Hurts learns the new offense under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.  The big question is the health of the offensive line. NFL games are won upfront, in the trenches. We won’t know the answer to that question until the real hitting takes place.

Friday night 97.3 ESPN radio will be broadcasting Live from the beach in Margate for the 80th Margate Memorial Lifeguard races from 6-8pm. Join me, Dan Adams, Jack Brooks, Erich Wolf, and Tom McCann as we bring the race to you Live.  We will cover all the Hot topics this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim.

On Saturday’s show, Producer Alex Berardis and Erin Ewing join me in the studio. We will examine the Phillies trade deadline haul.  Plus, the Eagles in week two of training camp.  In Hour One, we will hear from one of the Players from the Atlantic shore Babe Ruth team. Coach Mike Gill and his team is having a World Series fundraiser at Maynards in Margate on Sunday from 2-5pm, ahead of their trip to Jamestown for the Babe Ruth World Series.  In Hour Two, it’s our Beach Patrol report with Jack Brooks brought to you by McCann Realtors of Sea Isle and the Ocean City BP Lifeguard Alumni Association.  We will have interviews from the Margate Memorial Lifeguard races.

On Sunday’s show, I will be taking off this Sunday to coach my daughters' 2-v-2 basketball tournament in Ventnor.  Alex Berardis, Vince Focht, and Erin Ewing will take over the show.  In Hour One, they go “On the Mound” with former Phillies Pitcher Tommy Greene brought to you by Blitz’s Market of Ocean City.  My Crew will cover the Eagles training camp as well.  In Hour Two, Mr. Negadelphia P.J. Corda checks in, brought to you by the Vassar Pool Service.  P.J. opines on the Philly Sports scene.

All that and more this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to Noon on 97.3 FM ESPN Radio South Jersey.
