B.F. Mazzeo Co-Founder, Vince Mazzeo’s Mom, Eleanor, Dies at 90
Condolences are in order for the family of Eleanor Mazzeo, the matriarch of the Mazzeo family and the mother of New Jersey District Two Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, who died on Friday, Aug 13 at age 90.
Her obituary chronicles the start of the family's Northfield produce company that has been a staple business in the community for more than 60 years.
She also went to Holy Spirit High School where she was Valedictorian. She met the love of her life Benjamin and they were married in 1957.They had three boys Frank, Benjamin and Vincent. Eleanor worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell in the late 1940’s to mid-1950’s. In 1959 Ben opened B.F. Mazzeo Fruit & Produce and Eleanor joined him. The success of B.F. Mazzeo in the early years wasn’t easy. Eleanor and Ben worked side by side to make it a success. The business grew into what it is today a retail specialty market and wholesale fruit and produce distributor. Ben and Eleanor always wanted to have their family work in the business. Eleanor was the person who paid the bills and took care of the receivables. She took pride in being organized and making sure the work got done right.
Ben and Eleanor Mazzeo had three boys, Frank, Benjamin, and Vincent, and eight grandchildren. The Obituary makes note of the fact that all of the family spent time working in the family store. Eleanor, who is predeceased by her husband Benjamin., also has 12 great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was an active member of the Mainland Band Boosters during the 1970s. She also was a longtime parish member of St. Bernadette's, now St.Gianna parish. She had a strong faith and strong belief in giving back to various charitable organizations.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 19 at t Our Lady Star of the sea in Atlantic City. B.F. Mazzeo Fruit & Produce will be closed on Thursday in Eleanor's memory.
