Battle at the Beach Football Classic Returning to Ocean City, NJ
It looks likes plans for The Battle at the Beach Football Classic moving out of Ocean City and over to Atlantic City High School have changed.
According to the West Jersey Football Coaches Association, the classic will be playing games in Ocean City at Carey Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 29 and will feature a national match-up that will air on ESPN between national power IMG Academy and North Jersey power Bergen Catholic.
It will be the first of a two year agreement between the two teams to play in Ocean City on ESPN.
Other games that will be played in Ocean City include West Deptford and Manchester Township at 10 a.m., followed by Mainland and Camden then Ocean City will face Cinnaminson.
While the press release from the WJFCA states that games on Friday and Saturday are still being finalized, sources indicate those games will now be played at Egg Harbor Township High School, but that will be announced later this week.
Earlier reports indicated this years event would be moving to Atlantic City High School, due in part to Ocean City's long-term relationship with the Philadelphia Catholic League on Labor Day weekend, which is the weekend of the Battle at the Beach Classic.
By playing games on Thursday, that allows Ocean City to host one day of games with the two other days being moved offshore.
Some other games that will feature local teams include Millville against Holy Spirit, Oakcrest takes on Willingboro and more. There are other high profile games that are already on this years schedule.
