NFL.com's Mike Garofolo is reporting that the Chicago Bears have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo for their head-coaching vacancy. ESPN's Adam Schefter adds the Arizona Cardinals have also put in an interview request.

The Bears announced the firing of head coach John Fox on Monday. Arizona head coach Bruce Arians announced he is retiring from head coaching.

DeFilippo, 39, has worked closely with Eagles second-year quarterback Carson Wentz the last two seasons, and was previously a offensive coordinator with the Cleveland Browns.

Here is what NFL analyst Brian Baldinger today the Chicago Tribune about DeFilippo earlier this season:

(DeFilippo) is the guy,” analyst Brian Baldinger said before the Bears-Eagles game in November when asked if there’s an up-and-coming candidate in the vein of Rams coach Sean McVay. “Sharp, sharp, really sharp. Like he’s the smartest guy in the room. He would be unbelievable with a young quarterback. Everywhere he’s been Flip has been good. High energy, nonstop. If you’re looking, he’s head coach material.”

The Eagles’ QB coach, along with offensive coordinator Frank Reich and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz may have more requests as the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts have already fired coaches.

There are also more openings likely to come.
