There are plenty of great local coffee shops in  South Jersey, but five local spots ranked among the very best in the entire state of New Jersey.

NJ.com writers Jeremy Schneider and Lauren Musni came up with their list of the 51 best coffee shops in New Jersey for 2024.

Before we go over the list, I want to give a mention to some local spots that did not make the list, that you should try out.

  • Cafe Bru in Northfield
  • Barista's Coffee House in Linwood
  • Jesse's of Linwood
  • Jon & Patty's in Ocean City
  • Ventnor Coffee in Ventnor
  • Surf Road Coffee Bar &  Beach Bowls in Galloway

Here are the five local coffee shops that made the list of the best in New Jersey

50. Magic Brain Cafe, Cape May

Looking for coffee near the best beach in New Jersey? Locals and visitors agree, Magic Brain can’t be beat. Their blended beverages like frozen chai and frozen hot chocolate are perfect for cooling off on the beach. Their impressive collection of flavored syrups like cake batter, toasted marshmallow and cookie dough will satisfy the sweetest sweet tooth.

42. Koupa Espresso Bar, Haddon Township

Owner Eleni Anastasopoulous took her first steps at her grandfather’s coffee shop back in Greece and grew up accustomed to great food and fantastic coffee. After leaving Greece at six years old and then going back for 15 years when she turned 26, she wanted to bring those customs to the States. Not only does Koupa (meaning “cup” in Greece) Espresso Bar offer some delicious handcrafted drinks like the crème brûlée salted caramel latte, but they also serve European pastries like their spanakopita (voted best in South Jersey), baklava and bougatsa (Greek dessert made with custard wrapped in crispy phyllo).

39. Black Turtle Coffee, Brigantine

Braeden Anderson and Selena Gabrielle were working in business in New York City before they decided to pursue another passion — coffee. They moved to South Jersey and opened Black Turtle Coffee. Their “Blackshell” roast is the shop’s dark roast, a powerful and robust blend strong enough to awake the dead.

27. Hens & Honey Shoppe, Swedesboro

This South Jersey coffee house and boutique sells homemade soaps, candles, oils and more with another boutique just down the street under the same name. We tried out their coffee flights ($20) last year, which we enjoyed greatly. Customers choose four iced lattes from their large list — perfect for those indecisive customers and adventurous sippers (like me). They also offer a selection of single-cup coffees, lattes and other drinks.

26. How You Brewin, Barnegat Light and Surf City

How You Brewin maintains locations in Surf City and Barnegat Light on LBI — as well as a cafe in Pompano Beach, Florida. The shop does an impressive job of balancing beverages for coffee afficianodos like single-origin blends from Mexico and Costa Rica) with fun flavorful pours like bananas foster and coffee cake. The frozen cold brew horchata was one of the best coffees I had all summer long.

Those are the five coffee shops that made their list. I gave you a few that I like, what are your favorite coffee shops in South Jersey?
