Cape May Tech Is Bringing Something to New Jersey No School Has Had Before
For over 30 years, Cape May County Technical School has been the standard for students to receive real-world professional training in a high school academic environment. While other schools in the region offer select programs, Cape May Tech is built around offering full-service professional and technical trade academic programs.
Along with infrastructure additions to the Cape May Tech campus over the last 16 years, the school recently added new programs such as opportunities for students to gain experience in Departments in Cape May County Government.
New academic program debuting for the 2027-28 school year has a unique local connection
According to a press release from the Cape May Technical School District, the new four-year academic program is also New Jersey’s first Coast Guard Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (CGJROTC).
The United States Coast Guard established their first JROTC unit in 1992, as a non-military program offering students Maritime studies and life-skills lessons along with Community Service and team-building exercises that prepare them for the world after high school.
After the US Congress established the Coast Guard in 1915, the USCG established Cape May as the first permanent air station. Over almost 100 years, the US Coast Guard basic training center has been located in Cape May. So having the JROTC makes so much sense to be the latest addition to the Cape May Technical School Academic offerings.
Parents of students who are entering ninth grade next academic year and transfer students entering grades 10-12 at Cape May Tech are encouraged to learn more about the new CGJROTC program at one of the two upcoming information sessions on Tuesday, November 10th, and Thursday, December 10th. But will start at 5pm at the Cape Tech Conference Center located at 188 Crest Haven Road in Cape May Court House.
Cape May Technical School District Superintendent Jamie Moscony gave the following statement when I reached out and asked for a statement about this news for Townsquare Media South Jersey:
"I think the Coast Guard JROTC program is a great fit for Cape May Tech because we are fortunate to be part of such a strong Coast Guard community (here in Cape May County) - The program is the result of years of planning and preparation, along with significant updates to our facilities, including a new boathouse and docks that our students will have access to as part of the program. It also aligns closely with our mission to develop civic-minded graduates who have the knowledge, discipline, and leadership skills to be active participants in the global workforce. I’m especially excited for our students to work together, take on leadership responsibilities, gain hands-on experiences, and learn about the many career opportunities available through the Coast Guard."
