The Philadelphia Eagles  announced that LB Jamar Chaney underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a herniated disk in his neck. The procedure was performed by Dr. Craig Brigham in Charlotte, NC. Chaney was injured in the season finale vs. Washington on January 1.

According to sources, the  Eagles worked out free agent QB Trent Edwards.  Edwards was out of the league for the entire 2011 season. The Raiders cut him at the end of training camp, and Edwards turned down an offer to join the Dolphins after Chad Henne's season-ending injury in October.

Out Take:  Chaney might be challenged for the starting middle linebacker spot in 2012 and could  become more of a fill-in at all three positions in the mold of Omar Gaither.  As for Edwards, the Eagles  are looking for a veteran backup to Michael Vick and  can do better than Edwards
