Defense.

In many recent NFL mock drafts, we have seen a lot of players taken on the defensive side of the ball for the Philadelphia Eagles' 10th overall pick — and for good reason.

The team has plenty of free agent on the defensive side of the ball with key guys like James Bradberry, Javon Hargrave, C.J. Gardner Johnson, Marcus Epps, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham all free agents.

McShay's Mock Draft: Eagles Add defensive and offensive lineman in McShay's mock 2.0

Most most drafts have the Eagles focusing on the defensive line, but NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has the team going in a different direction.

In his second mock draft, Jeremiah has Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon landing with Philadelphia with pick No. 10.

An edge rusher wouldn’t surprise me here, but I think Witherspoon is the best corner in the draft. He reminds me a lot of former Eagles Pro Bowler Asante Samuel.

The 6-foot-1 Witherspoon would likely be replacing James Bradberry, who will likely leave via free agency and pair with Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox in the cornerback room.

As a senior in 2022, Witherspoon was dominate, making 39 tackles and had 14 pass breakups and three interceptions and has shown the skill and has the length and speed to emerge as a starter quickly in 2023.

Jeremiah has Witherspoon has the first corner back off the board, going to Philadelphia at No. 10.

Next up with the No. 30 pick, Jeremiah has the Eagles staying on the defensive side of the ball, taking Kansas State edge rusher, Felix Anudike-Uzomah.

The way the Eagles do business, I’d be shocked if they left the first round with an offensive or defensive lineman.

Anudike-Uzomah had a tremendous season in 2022, with 46 tackles, 11.0 for loss, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup for the Wildcats, while being named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

The NFL combine begins next week, and these are two names Eagles fans should keep an eye on in Indianapolis
