Eagles Secure Historic Deal with Zack Baun, A New Era in Philadelphia
The headliner of the Philadelphia Eagles 2024 Offseason was the signing of Running Back Saquon Barkley, who became only the ninth player in NFL History to rush for 2,000 yards in a season.
But one of the most important players in the Eagles' run to Super Bowl 59 was Linebacker Zack Baun. The former New Orleans Saints Linebacker was a part-time defensive player who mostly played Special Teams.
But Eagles Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio saw something special in Baun and the Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman signed him to a one-year "prove it" type deal. He did more than prove his worth, voted an Associated Press First-Team All-Pro, and was a Finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
One of the Eagles 15 Free Agents during the 2025 NFL Offseason, Philadelphia made it a priority to re-sign Zack Baun and they have put their "money where their mouth is" when it comes to the important defensive player.
Details of Zack Baun's New Contract with the Eagles
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that Linebacker Zack Baun will be signing a three-year contract with $34 Million Guaranteed and a total contract value with the potential for Baun to make up to $51 Million.
There are $1.5 million additional incentives and escalators built into the deal that allows Baun to earn more than the initial average annual value of $11.33 Million per season.
Almost one year ago, Baun had signed a one year deal for $3.5 Million, so this is a pay increase of over 223 percent. Baun more than earned the pay increase after finished with the third-most Solo Tackles in the NFL in 2024 and the Eagles defense was Number One in Fewest Total Yards Allowed.
This is the first time in seven years the Philadelphia Eagles re-signed a starting Linebacker who was headed for Free Agency. After winning Super Bowl 52, the Eagles re-signed Nigel Bradham to a five-year deal worth $40 Million in March 2018.
The Eagles have been busy the last few days creating more salary cap room in order to make re-signing Zack Baun a reality. The release of Cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry along with the contract extension for Saquon Barkley has created approximately $10 Million more in Salary Cap Space for the 2025 NFL season.
