Eagles sign former 3rd-round defensive tackle Byron Young
The Eagles continue to make moves ahead of their season opener in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers. The team has signed former third-round defensive tackle Byron Young to come to Philadelphia.
To make for Young on the roster, the team has released defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu, a sixth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of USC.
Young, 23, was the third-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2023 NFL Draft, who selected the defensive tackle with the 70th overall pick out of Alabama.
Young played collegiately at Alabama for head coach Nick Saban, making 48 tackles, 5.5 going for a loss, four sacks, 2two pass deflections, and a forced fumble as a senior. He was a First-Team All-SEC selection and Second-Team All-American in his final college season in 2022.
As a rookie in Vegas he made little impact with the Raiders, Young totaled four tackles in six games appearing in just 99 defensive snaps.
The Eagles released Tuipulotu, but kept six defensive tackles on their initial 53-man roster, and one on the practice squad, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this position with Young now in the mix.
