Embiid Has Emergency Surgery while Flyers Need Wins to make Playoffs
Earlier this week my daughter, my Nephew, and I went to St. Thomas for spring break. St Thomas and St John were beautiful to visit, but what made my trip special was that I got to watch the Flyers vs Devils game on my phone.
That’s right, while in paradise I was able to see the Fly Boys beat the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night, only to return home on Thursday to see the Flyers lose to the Detroit Red Wings. The Flyers are 6-3-0 in their last nine games, and still hold the third spot in the Metropolitan division playoff race.
Porter Martone continues to impress: In his first six games with the Flyers, Martone has two goals and four assists for six points with a plus/minus of +3. The Flyers control their own destiny with three games left in the regular season; Win all three, and they’re in! But if they don’t, they will need help.
The 76ers were dealt another blow this week when it was discovered that Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with appendicitis, and had emergency surgery on Thursday afternoon. The Sixers are currently in the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, and have two games remaining in the regular season. They have the Pacers and Bucks left, both teams are out of the playoffs but without Embiid it won’t be easy because Philadelphia also needs the Toronto Raptors to loose if they have any hopes to get out of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
The Phillies return home to a nine-game home stand that starts off with Philadelphia hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks for three games this weekend. Three Phillies are hitting under the Mendoza line; Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, and Kyle Schwarber need to get their bats going if the Phillies want to get back in the win column. Jesus Luzardo gets the ball Friday for the Phillies. Luzardo has a 4.97 ERA in his first two starts, but he pitched much better in his second start with 11 Strikeouts last Saturday in Colorado.
