Ersson, Flyers Defeat Ducks to Start Road Trip
Goaltending has plagued the Flyers of late. On Saturday, it helped the Flyers win a game.
Sam Ersson made 32 saves to help the Flyers get back into the win column with a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
Both teams had some chances in the opening period, but neither team could find the net. Through 20 minutes, shots were 10-7 Anaheim.
The Flyers took the lead at 4:03 of the second. Bobby Brink got Lukas Dostal down and out, then centered for Noah Cates, who scored for the fifth straight game to make it 1-0.
The lead held up until the final five minutes of the period, when the Ducks were able to tie it back up. Troy Terry got space at the top of the left circle and ripped a shot past Ersson to make it 1-1 with his 10th of the season at 15:38.
Through two periods, shots were 22-19 Anaheim.
The Flyers got the lead back at 5:57 of the third. Morgan Frost made a move and then his centering pass banked off of Dostal and in to make it 2-1 on Frost's seventh of the season.
After a late penalty kill, Joel Farabee iced the game with a steal and a goal into an empty net.
Ersson made 32 saves on 33 shots in the win. Dostal made 22 saves on 24 shots in the loss.
The Flyers are right back on the ice on Sunday night, facing the Los Angeles Kings at 9 p.m.
