ESPN’s Dan Graziano picks one surprise about the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles
With new offensive coordinator Kellen Morre and the addition of running back Saquan Barkley, the Philadelphia Eagles offense will have a different look in 2024. One look that is not changing is their top two wide receivers give the Eagles one of the top duos in the NFL.
Which wide receiver will have a bigger year in 2024, A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith?
ESPN’s Dan Graziano believes it will be Smith having the bigger season in 2024. He has Smith ending the season as the Eagles' top receiver this year as one of his surprises for the 2024 season.
"Smith looks amazing," or something to that effect, was what I was hearing whenever I talked to anyone about Eagles training camp over the past month. Remember that the Eagles extended Smith's contract this offseason before they extended Brown. That doesn't mean you should overlook Brown, as this should be one of the best wide receiver duos in the entire league and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is liable to move them and newly acquired Jahan Dotson around the formation to find mismatches.
Graziano noted that Smith has elevated something about his game since being the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Alabama.
But Smith has elevated something about his game each season in the eyes of the Eagles, who drafted him 10th overall in 2021, and he could be poised for a massive breakout -- possibly even surpassing Brown as the team's No. 1 wideout.
Over his last two seasons, Smith has caught 240 passes for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns and while his numbers in 2023 were down from his 2022 numbers, he did average more yards per catch last season and could be a line for another big year opposite AJ. Brown.
The Eagles have plenty of options on offense, with tight end Dallas Goedert, new No. 3 wide receiver Jahan Dotson, and Barkley around to give Smith plenty of favorable matchups.
The Eagles open the 2023 season in São Paulo, Brazil’ against the Green Bay Packers on Friday night. Coverage from the Eagles Radio Network begins at 7 p.m. and kickoff with Merril Reese and Mike Quick is at 8:15.
