Five Eagles Players Ruled Out as Six More Face Uncertain Status
The month of October has not been kind to the Philadelphia Eagles so far. The team is on a three-game losing streak, future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson suddenly retired, the organization was without seven starters in their London game this past weekend, and now Quarterback Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely with a blood clot found in his leg.
Dr. David Chao joined The Sports Bash with Mike Gill on Thursday, and he explained that as long as Hurts' blood clot doesn't become a more serious issue, the Eagles Quarterback could return to action next month.
But for this Sunday, the Eagles have backup Quarterback Tanner McKee leading an offense with multiple opening-week starters who will be unavailable when the Carolina Panthers come to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday.
Potentially 11 Eagles Could Be Unavailable versus Panthers on Sunday
Before the release of Friday's Injury Report, Philadelphia announced they placed Will Shipley on Injured Reserve. The 24-year-old Running Back sustained a partial tear of his plantar fascia in his foot during the Eagles' loss to the Jaguars in London.
In total, four other players were officially ruled out for Sunday:
*Running Back Saquon Barkley (Hamstring Injury)
*Quarterback Jalen Hurts (Calf Issue)
*Jalyn Hunt (Knee and Ankle Injuries)
*Defensive Back Michael Carter (Abdominal Issue)
Also, the Eagles listed five players as Questionable to play on Sunday:
*Left Guard Landon Dickerson (Knee Issue)
*Center Drew Kendall (Knee Injury)
*Tight End Grant Calcaterra (Back Issue)
*Cornerback Jakorian Bennett (Knee Injury)
*Tight End Eli Stowers (Quadriceps Issue)
It should be emphasized that Dickerson, Calcaterra, Bennett, and Stowers must be activated from Injured Reserve in order to play on Sunday, and Philadelphia must open up 53-man roster spots for any of those four to be available on game day.
The Eagles still have not shifted recently retired Lane Johnson off the active 53-man roster, and considering that Jalen Hurts will be out for an indefinite amount of time, those are two players are candidates to be moved off the active roster.
Another player who is likely to be unavailable for Sunday's game is Defensive Lineman AJ Epenesa. The seven-year veteran is listed as Doubtful with a Back Injury.
One other Eagles news item from Friday: Philadelphia signed Quarterback Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. The former Michigan and Tennessee starting Quarterback was selected in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
But the Carolina Panthers Injury List is almost as long as the Eagles
Before traveling to Philadelphia, the Panthers have five players listed as questionable for Sunday's game, along with one player Doubtful (Starting Offensive Lineman Monroe Freeling), and former Eagles Running Back AJ Dillon has been ruled out for Sunday's game with an Ankle Injury.
Similar to the Eagles, Carolina also has players they must activate from Injured Reserve before they can play on Sunday:
*Defensive End Turk Wharton (Neck Injury)
*Running Back Trevor Etienne (Ankle Injury)
*Offensive Tackle Taylor Moton (Blood Clot in Lung)
The other two Panthers players listed as Questionable on Friday's Injury Report are Guard Damien Lewis (Elbow Injury), and former Eagles Edge Rusher Jaelan Phillips (Hamstring Issue).
