Flyers Cannot Keep up With the Bruins in Another Preseason Loss
The Philadelphia Flyers traveled to Beantown to take on the Boston Bruins in their second preseason game. The Flyers were looking to bounce back after Monday nights loss to the Washington Capitals and they did just about everything but that.
For the Flyers, the only main roster regulars who played tonight were Owen Tippett, Noah Cates, Nick Seeler, and Dan Vladar. Whereas the Boston Bruins were dressing a lot more of their opening lineup guys and it showed on the score sheet where the Bruins beat the Flyers 5-1.
Yes a loss is always a concern but the main concern coming out of this preseason game is starting goalie Dan Vladar leaving the game in the first period due to what appeared to be an upper body injury after allowing Boston's first goal. There has not yet been an update to the specifics of the injury.
The Bruins started the scoring off with a deflection goal from Mikey Eyssimont 13:31 into the 1st period, it was his first of two on the night. The goal was assisted by Frederic Brunet and Tanner Jeannot.
This was where Dan Vladar had left the game due to injury and was replaced by backup goalie Aleksei Kolosov.
Jacob Gaucher then responded a few minutes later with a highlight reel goal taking it all by himself down the wall past the defender and crashing the net tying up the game at 1-1 going into the first intermission.
The 2nd period was a very quiet one for both sides where the Flyers seemed to have weathered the early storm by the Bruins. The Flyers had actually outshot the Bruins 12-10 in this period but it resulted in no goals for either side going into the 3rd still tied at 1-1.
The Bruins began the 3rd period onslaught early with a goal 5:19 into the period by Morgan Geekie on the powerplay. It was assisted by David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm.
Then just barely two minutes later Brian Halonen buries the rebound chance off of the face off to give the Bruins the 3-1 lead.
And the goals just kept on coming for the Bruins as 14:49 into the 3rd Elias Lindholm ripped a one time blast right from the slot past Kolosov to give the Bruins the now 4-1 lead.
Finally to wrap the dreadful final period up Mikey Eyssimont delivered his second goal of the game which was assisted by Dans Locmelis to give the Bruins the 5-1 lead which ended up being the final score.
With the Bruins playing many of their starters in this one it seemed as though only a matter of time before the goals started to pile up especially after the Flyers lost their starting goalie Dan Vladar.
The team fought hard for the first two periods, but then in the 3rd it just seemed that the better of the two teams prevailed and the Bruins left no questions about who the better team was.
The Flyers continue their preseason on Thursday night at home against the Bruins at 7 p.m.
