Flyers Drop 3rd Straight Game, Fall to Kraken
As a selling team at the deadline, the Flyers were going to weaken the roster and be a less talented team come Saturday. But for the third straight game, they were handed a pretty convincing defeat, and this one came against a team that was in a similar position on deadline day.
After scoring first, the Flyers allowed four straight goals to the Seattle Kraken, falling for the third straight game, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers had three power plays in the opening period, but were unable to score. In the final minute of the period, they did get the first goal of the game.
Owen Tippett made a strong power move to the net and got a fortunate bounce as a poke check attempt deflected into back off of Tippett and in for his 19th goal of the season.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 11-7 Flyers.
Seattle took control in the second period, out-shooting the Flyers, 17-9. They tied the game at 10:11, as Tye Kartye scored his fourth goal of the season on a turnaround shot through a screen.
In the final 90 seconds of the second, an ugly period for the Flyers got away from them on the scoreboard. Matty Beniers scored at 4-on-4 off a defensive breakdown with 1:03 left in the period, his 15th of the season, to put Seattle in front.
Then, with the Flyers on a power play in the final minute, a turnover led to a shorthanded breakaway for Chandler Stephenson, who scored his 11th goal of the season to make it 3-1.
Through two periods, shots were 23-20 Seattle.
The Kraken added to the lead at 3:55 of the third. Off a face-off, a point shot by Brandon Montour beat Sam Ersson for his 13th goal of the season, making it 4-1.
Ersson made 28 saves on 32 shots in the loss. Philipp Grubauer made 23 saves on 24 shots in the win.
Beniers had two points for Seattle.
The Flyers are right back on the ice on Sunday afternoon to take on the New Jersey Devils at 1 p.m.
