Flyers Files: Familiar Foes
Welcome to another edition of Flyers Files, an exclusive podcast available only on 97.3 ESPN. Join 97.3 ESPN Flyers insider Kevin Durso as he breaks down the latest in Flyers hockey.
The last week started with the return of Cutter Gauthier to Wells Fargo Center, and the atmosphere didn't disappoint. The lively crowd serenaded Gauthier while being treated to a 6-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks in the process.
That may have helped jumpstart a strong week from the Flyers. They rallied back to defeat the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Monday, managed a point in a shootout loss to Columbus on Tuesday, and secured a win over the New York Islanders on Thursday.
The meeting with the Islanders was the team's first of three this month. Similarly, the Flyers next opponent, the New Jersey Devils, are also on the schedule three times in January, starting with this Saturday's game. The familiarity with these opponents is sure to bring out some fire on the ice between the two teams.
Another key member of the week's success has been Noah Cates. Cates scored twice in the comeback win against Florida and added an empty-netter against the Islanders while continuing to provide the little things that make him such a valuable player. His growth offensively has also helped earn him more ice time and responsibility.
