Flyers Files: Flyers Get Grounded
Welcome to another edition of Flyers Files, an exclusive podcast available only on 97.3 ESPN. Join 97.3 ESPN Flyers insider Kevin Durso as he breaks down the last week of Flyers hockey.
The Flyers have suffered back-to-back losses, including on Tuesday night in Carolina to start a three-game road trip. As a result, the team awoke on Wednesday at the bottom of the NHL standings, by virtue of points percentage. While it remains early in the season to say that's ultimately where the Flyers will finish, is this what their future holds for the remainder of 2024-25?
The Flyers did manage four goals in Carolina, but on just 16 shots on goal. Offense has been hard to come by for the Flyers, and their low shot totals are not helping the cause. The Flyers ranked fourth in the NHL in shots per game last season, so what has happened to have the team drop so far in that category?
Sam Ersson left Saturday's game with an injury, and leaves behind even more of a goaltending situation for now. Aleksei Kolosov played in relief on Saturday and started on Tuesday. While Ersson's injury is not expected to be long-term, the backup goaltending position remains a mess for the Flyers.
